Saturday Spotlight #2- Mashup Germany

Anyone who follows my blog knows that Mashup Germany, also known as Ben Stiller, has been very busy lately. The 28 year old half american, half German producer has been killing it lately. He's been developing so much over the last few weeks. His last few tracks have been some of my top go to mashups. Stiller has been producing for three years now but has only really found a sound he belongs to over the last month in my opinion.
His latest track that dropped yesterday, I Love That Dirty Bass is really crazy and captivates a lot of really awesome tracks.

His other latest track, Life of Bad Touch is nothing short of epic, combining Eye of The Tiger, Bad Touch and then breaks into a crazy banger.

Zimmer- Toboggan (June Tape)

Zimmer is back with their latest monthly mix. This one, titled, Toboggan, again captivates that funky disco sound while maintaining a solid, catchy beat.

CAZZETTE vs Alex Clare - Too Close (CAZZETTE's 'Amphitheatres Surrounding Her' Mix)

Alex Care's Too Close has been a popular track for a while now and this preview encompasses a really cool sound that reminisces of Dubstep and House, the combination works really well and be sure to check back for the full drop of the remix.

Zedd - Spectrum (Dead C∆T Bounce Remix)

Since their remix of Call Me Maybe, I've been keeping a close eye on these guys and a few hours ago they dropped their latest remix of Spectrum. I'm not gonna lie, I'm a sucker for anything to do with Spectrum, and this remix doesn't dissatisfy, adding a solid beat and electro vibes.

The Notorious B.I.G. vs. Ellie Goulding - Under The Funk (Carlos Serrano Mix)

Carlos Serrano really made a name for himself with his release of Something About The Fire, which combined Adele and Daft Punk, which created a beautiful song. His latest release takes Ellie Goulding's delicate vocals and Biggie's rhymes. The two make a sweet combo.

RAC - Hollywood ft. Penguin Prison (Felix Da Housecat Remix)

RAC's Hollywood has been a really influencal indie track over the last few months and this latest remix from Felix Da Housecat takes it for a ride in the Dance genre. The remix adds really catchy synths and has a good bridge / breakdown.

This month's edition of Blau Haus was dropped last night and this time we got an electro mix. As Blau himself said in the intro, last month he really stuck with the progressive sound and this month he's livened it up with some electro. He kicks the podcast off with one of the bootlegs Porter Robinson dropped recently and moves through the podcast, hitting on tracks like Nari & Milani's Atom, Zedd's remix of Breakn A Sweat. He also takes classics like Kick Out The Epic Motherfucker, Alesso's Raise Your Head, then he finishes it off with some Wolfgang Gartner and Knife Party's Rage Valley. This mix is a pretty good rager so have some fun with it.

Oliver - White Light 60

Since I discovered Oliver a few months ago with the Dirty Talk EP, I've been a big fan. The duo have really developed their own unique sound and they stick with it. Today for us, they've put a new mix on SoundCloud and it doesn't dissapoint. Their new addition to the White Light series of mixes has twenty three tracks and is really laid back, chill and happy. The quote from Oliver regarding this mix;
“In a world between dreams and reality, this mix was intended to conjure the feeling of a night cruise down some lost highway draped in a tapestry of stars.”

Skrillex & Friends in South America

Just this morning Skrillex released his latest tour video from his spring tour in South America. In the video you'll recognize faces such as Diplo, LMFAO, Ellie Goulding and as usual, the man, the legend, the Roadhog himself. It's clear from this video that they're having a ton of fun and the tracks featured in the video don't dissapoint. Skrillex even hits up Lolapalooza and the South Americans go nuts for him, even mobbing around his tour bus at one point.

Zedd – Spectrum (D’Anconia Remix)

Since it dropped, Spectrum has easily been my favourite original track of 2012 and it's still got the #1 spot on Beatport locked down. While I'm wary of all the lesser quality remixes, this one sustains the epic, melodic sounds of the original while introducing it to electro house and the remix adds an unexpected twist to what I'm declaring my favorite track of 2012 hands - down.

Duran Duran - Hungry Like The Wolf (Steve Aoki Vs. Duran Duran - The New York Werewolf Mix)

We all know that Aoki is becoming more and more known for his crazy remixes. This time he's taken an oldie; Duran Duran's Hungry Like the Wolf and once again given it the Steve Aoki special. The remix has a big house sound and makes this classic track epic.

Cage the Elephant - Ain't No Rest for the Wicked (Ahab Remix)

Cage The Elephant has been revamped in this blues- glitch hop remix courtesy of the new producer from Dallas. The nice thing is that the remix withholds the rock of the original. I used to be a huge Cage the Elephant fan but eventually lost them in the crowd. Thanks Ahab for rekindling my love for Cage the Elephant. Also keep an eye out for the guy as I doubt this is the last we'll see from him.

Mashed Monday #1

This week being the first mashed Monday, I have a really big post to kick the segment off. At noon today the mashup genius Gregory Kantor, under the alias 5 & A Dime, dropped his fourth album and highly anticipated sequel to last year's big success, BASSMOB. The album was titled BASSMOB II: Return To Neverland. Last week he dropped 'Dream' from the album and it was a crazy mashup of dubstep hits featuring a whopping nine tracks! The album itself features all your favorite pop and edm songs cleverly intertwined together to create something beautiful. At 11pm last night tons of people flooded into to listen to the preview party of the new songs which I unfortunately I couldn't join from Canada. However, I can honestly say this is the biggest mashup release of the year thus far. This album is completely insane and features so many crazy tracks that you would not ever expect to see together. Not only does Mr. Kantor pull it all off but at the same time adds whole new aspects to the tracks. Be sure to grab the album and the continuous mix FOR FREE over at Kantor's SoundCloud. I can not express enough good things about this album, there is not a single track that isn't stunning and incredible. Check it out for yourselves.

Secondly is Madeon's latest endeavour. I'm always excited and over the moon when I see something new from Madeon and this one is notheing different. The 17 year old protege from France is tearing it up with this new mix he did for a radio segment. This seems to sway slightly away from Madeon's feel good, enlightening music ever so slightly and I love it. This 5 minute mix draws upon samples from over 70 songs! This kid has clearly got his skills and it shows in his genius mixes. Make sure to check this one out and hit the free download on his SoundCloud.

Moving on, this time from  DJ 21azy we have a combination of 4 artists that couldn’t be more different from each other.  Two European Progressive House producers are matched up with some America’s most faux badass rappers (depending on who you ask).  Calvin Harris and Basto, meet Three 6 Mafia and DJ Unk.

Next up we have the latest track from Toronto mashup duo Dzeko & Torres. This week they're bringing us a big house mashup of M83's Midnight City and Daft Punk's One More Time, even throwing in some Calvin Harris and Eric Prydz.

Finally, I made a mashup yesterday that I wanted to share with the readers. It's from my upcoming albume titled Introductions: The Mixtape which drops on July 1st. I drew upon a lot of different sounds for this one including the melodic feel of Spectrum and the banger side of Go Deep.

Deadmau5- The Veldt EP

This morning, Deadmau5 unveiled his latest EP. Inspired by the work of Ray Bradbury, the mau5 wrote and produced an uplifiting and euphoric track that lightly moves along.  Although Chris James’ lyrics fit the track’s inspiration, personally I would have preferred an instrumental edit.  Filling out the EP are remixes from Australian big room electro producer Tommy Trash and Freeform Five. And perhaps unexpected, he included a “gnarly bassy oldschool hiphop” collaboration with plant-enthusiast rap group Cypress Hill named Failbait. Anyone who followed the Mau5's series of streams back in February and March, when he was in his new Toronto penthouse studio will recognize these. The only thing that dissapoints in this EP is the lack of material. Mau5 released The Veldt as a single so I really didn't see the need for an EP with the original again, and two remixes that have been floating around blogs lately. He only put one other track on the EP, even one or two more tracks would have been nice, it just seemed like a lot of build up for only one new track when you look at the bare structure. However, the EP doesn't dissapoint and be sure to grab it from Beatport or iTunes.

EDM Update

If this is the first you are hearing of it, then it pains me greatly to inform you that the trio powerhouse Swedish House Mafia have announced that they are splitting up and going their separate ways. However, anybody who follows SHM closely knows this was almost bound to happen. The Mafia is more like three different producers under one roof, with no true flag to fly. No disrespect at all, but it doesn’t take three guys to make “One” or “Save The World”, each of them could have done that individually. If you saw the “Take One” documentary, you’d see how different these three are in terms of production methods, personalities, and egos. They make gorgeous music together, but I was honestly more shocked with Pendulum breaking up a week or so ago. It is a sad day for anyone in the EDM community and they will be sorely missed.

Also, there is the matter of the possible termination of Electric Daisy Carnival. Under heat from the law, the citizens, and the CEO himself, Insomniac is pegged into the corner and is getting rocked from all sides. First, they are still dealing with the legal and financial battle from the death of the Los Angeles minor, who was the driving force in moving EDC to the desert. To spare the details, they’re screwed. In addition, amongst more drug incidents as well as general discontent with the festival and its heads, the city of Las Vegas might be taking the ground from out under them. And with Pasquale Rotella, the Insomniac CEO, being quoted as saying “he’s done with the big acts”, it seems the EDC experience is all but over now. If it were to survive, it would be a much smaller, art-based festival featuring smaller acts and thereby a smaller budget.

Finally, I'm sorry but there will be no more posts from me today. However, I have two massive posts to put out tomorrow so check back for those, you'll love them!

How Pop is ruining EDM

While I'm on the subject of Axewll, I have another mini rant to go on. Flo Rida is really starting to piss me off. A lot. When he decided to rip off Levels and then massacre a really sick track, I was sorely dissapointed. This time I'm down right furious and have lost any respect I ever had for Flo Rida. He has taken Axwell's hit In My Mind. Flo Rida just went ahead and took last winter’s top tune behind the dumpster and slaughtered it mercilessly. Who is he trying to win over with this? The EDMheads who always wished for a 32 year old man to rap over one of their favorite songs?

In general, I'm starting to worry about mainstream pop destroying EDM. The first major instance of this was David Guetta's latest album, Nothing But The Beat. It featured just about every artist in the Top 40, which was startling. It was the first album to feature that much of a crossover between EDM and Pop. However, Guetta released a podcast documentary for free on iTunes which talked about his inspirations for the album and his hopes for a relationship between EDM and Pop. There are really powerful words behind what Guetta talks about and you should really grab the podcast from iTunes.

However, Guetta's message seems to have come of the wrong way and I feel that it may be inspiring artists like Flo Rida to make a fool out of the EDM industry through his covers of In My Mind and Levels.

BNR Vol. 2 Mix

Boysnoize records recently dropped their second compilation album. To recognize this they also made a mix thats pretty dope. I can't name any of the artists with Boysnoize records that isn't incredibly talented and this mix highlights those artists hit tracks in two mixes.

New Segments

I wanna start a few weekly segments. On Saturday I will post a segment called Saturday Spotlight, which will highlight an upcoming DJ. I will also do one called Mashed Mondays which will feature mashups.

As time goes on I'll probably introduce a few others but this can just start me off for now.

Daft Punk – Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger (Specimen A & James D’ley Remix)

Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger is one of the most iconic electronic songs of all time and Daft Punk has one of the biggest fan bases in the industry. When I first saw this remix I was a little bit wary and skeptical, but the gamble of remixing such a huge legendary song has paid off for the UK brothers and this remix adds a really sweet electro-dubstep spin on a timeless classic.

Saturday Spotlight #1 Tommy Trash

Los Angeles DJ known as Tommy Trash is one of the biggest names in Australian dance music. Since bursting onto the scene just three years ago, Tommy has dominated charts and dance floors alike with over 40 originals and remixes, quickly establishing himself as one of the most talented and prolific homegrown artists.

His June Mix samples a lot of big house hitters and contains all elements a monthly mix should.

Next up is Tommy Trash's remix of The Veldt. If you haven't heard The Veldt yet then it's time to crawl out from under your rock as it is one of the biggest Deadmau5 songs in a long long time. Anyway, Trash's remix revamps the track and adds a warpy feel too it. Trash's remix will also be featured on Deadmau5's Veldt EP which drops on Sunday.

Finally is his most recent release, titled Unite Kids, features MGMT's Kids which is a heavily remixed song I must admit, but this one stands out in the crowd.

Adventure Club – Need Your Heart Ft. Kai

The Montreal dubstep duo have done it again. After their successful release of Wait, they've quickly released another track. Whether they're remixing or creating original material, these two have fine tuned their skill and they've done it again with another dubstep track. Be sure to snag the free download and check out their SoundCloud for more awesome songs.

Kraak & Smaak- Let's Go Back (feat. Romanthony) EP

This afternoon I found a sweet new funky house trio from the Netherlands known as Kraak & Smaak. This was their first work I stumbled across on Beatport and immediately hit purchase on that one. This is a definite crowd pleaser. The EP has some really funky walking bass lines and catchy synth hooks.

Diplo- Express Yourself EP

2 days ago the Philadelphia wonder known as Diplo dropped his latest EP. Now Diplo is mainly known for his fusion moomba-hip hop music and this will please all fans of that music. The EP consists of 6 tracks each with their own unique hip hop fusion. He even brings in DJs like Datsik and Lazerdisk Party Sex which is always a pleaser. This moombathon inspired EP is really catchy and has some solid hooks.

Zedd- Spectrum (Piano Version)

Zedd's Spectrum has been a huge success, rocketing to the number 1 spot on Beatport. To celebrate he did a beautiful piano version of his melodic masterpiece and it comes up nothing short of stunning and spectacular.

Major Lazer – Original Don ft. The Partysquad (Helicopter Showdown Remix)

Before I go any further, I feel the need to warn you, this track may leave you feeling violated.

Now that we have that cleared up lets move on.
This remix of Major Lazer's Original Don is fucking crazy and when the bass drops, you will be hit with some of the filthiest dubstep out there.

Get down to the track and please press download, this needs to be in everyone's library instantly.

Mashup-Germany – The Day the Music Died

Mashup Germany has always taken some of the broadest selections for their mashups. On Monday, they released The Day The Music Died and today released a video to accompany it. The Day The Music Died has a lot of old songs gathered from a broad spectrum including some Eric Clapton, B.o.B., Jessie J, and Elvis.

Dada Life- Kick Out The Epic Motherfucker (Datsik Remix Teaser)

Although it's only a preview, there is now I could NOT post about this. It combines the banana master's KOTEM with the heavy, brain melting dubstep of Datsik. I can not wait until this one comes out.

Electric Daisy Carnival: The Mega Post

Anyone in the EDM community knows that Electric Daisy Carnival is one of the biggest festivals in North America. Some of the bigger DJs who played at EDC include Hardwell, Kaskade, Knife Party, Kill the Noise, Dada Life, R3HAB, Steve Aoki, and Afrojack.

Knife Party
Diving right into it I'll start off with Knife Party's set. Having just released the Rage Valley EP they had a lot of stuff to show off. However, the took us by surprise once again with their set. Knife Party unveiled a lot of unreleased VIPs and bootlegs in their set which never goes unappreciated. Their manipulation of the bass drops drove the crowds wild and their song selection was dope.

Known for his smooth, feel good dance music. Kaskade killed it with his set. It was clean, and had all the favourite hits. After his Coachella set I had really high expectations on this one and it cleaned up in my opinion. Not only did it have the Kaskade sound we all know and love but it also had a hard beat as well.

For Hardwell's set, he kicked it off with his latest hit Spaceman, even sampling Gotye's Somebody That I Used To Know similar to Kap Slap's bootleg. From there it only got better. It kept Hardwell's sound the whole time even though he wasn't shy when it came to sampling other DJ's stuff.

Dada Life
As the Swedish duo took to the stage at EDC their set consisted of banger after banger including a lot of new bootlegs which never hurts. I'm sure they were throwing and consuming bananas and champagne as they usually do at their live sets.

Kill The Noise
Although KTN's set was shorter than others, it was still not to be reckoned with. It had a lot of the eerie dubstep sound that KTN is known for and after the first bass drop you're hooked. The heavy, hard hitting dubstep KTN brings to the table never gets old and it was filled with new, unreleased material.

R3HAB not only got to play at EDC but he also mixed the official soundtrack album for EDC. His set had all the classics and then some. It opens with his absolute smasher, Sending My Love and has the electro mix that all DJ's would kill for.

Steve Aoki & Afrojack
I'm not gonna lie, I save the best for last. The set that took the cake for me at EDC was Steve Aoki & Afrojack's. When you put two of THE biggest names in EDM together, there's nothing else yo expect. Their back to back set was insane and has a really hard house beat that you can certainly fist pump to.

Also, heres Aoki's on tour video chronicling his EDC 2012 adventures.

It's safe to say that this year's EDC was the best yet. In it's twelfth year now it has progressed to become one of the biggest US festivals up there with Coachella. I can only look forward to the third installment of EDC on August 18th in Puerto Rico. The DJ's work so hard on their sets and bring all their unreleased material to show off and unveil at these festivals.

Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe (Dead C∆T Bounce "summer" Remix)

Even though I feel like smashing the radio whenever I hear the first few notes to Call Me Maybe, this is the first remix I've found that doesn't make me want to pull my hair out. The Luxemborg act known as Dead Cat Bounce came out of nowhere to revamp what was one of the most annoying, overplayed songs of history, into a feel good-vibe remix.

Tuesday, 19 June 2012

Skrillex & Nero – New ID: massive dubstep collab

When you put Skrillex and Nero together something magical happens as the world saw with the remix of Promises. This time they've come together to collaborate and create something even better. We get the best of both from the dubstep heavy hitters. Brace your ears, for what you are about to hear is absolutely massive. Although the release date is unclear, you can't complain with something this crazy and huge. The track is unbelievable and is sure to rattle and melt your brain. Turn the bass up for this one and as always,

Lights - Ellie Goulding (Swatdojo Remix): moomba electro

Although the amount of remixes for Lights is up there with songs like Levels, I can never get enough of Ellie Goulding's vocals. What makes this remix unique and different is that this is the first moomba remix of Lights that I have heard. The original really fuses well with the moombathon beat and has a really sweet vibe to it. The Austin, Texas duo have really hit it with this one.

Monday, 18 June 2012

Krewella- Play Hard EP

The Chicago trio known as Krewella has really made a name for themselves over the last 6 months, exploding across electronic music blogs. Their new EP, Play Hard dropped today on Beatport and it has a solid variety of tracks ranging from dubstep to electro house to progressive. My personal favorite from the EP is Alive. It's an epic progressive house track that does an impressive job of captivating the listener and building up to a beat drop. Make sure to check out the SoundCloud stream and head on over to Beatport to purchase the EP.

The Beatles – Don’t Let Me Down (Gramatik Remix)

Although I have a general no Beatles remix rule, this one caught my attention. I've only recently discovered Gramatik with their latest remix. This one features the classic Don't Let Me Down but it's combined with some of Gramatik's funky trance synths and it's really prominent in this track.

Birdy Nam Nam: Goin' In (Skrillex Fast Mix): brand new remix

We're in for a treat here as Skrillex dropped his latest remix recently at the Spring Awakening festival. His remix of Birdy Nam Nam's Goin' In is as the man himself puts it "a new dance floor tune for y'all".

Nero, Kill The Noise, Skrillex & Zeds Dead - "Dream" (5 & A Dime Bootleg)

5 & A Dime is back!
In anticipation of his next album, Bassmob II: Return To Neverland, he's dropping a new single to create some hype. This single features not one, not two, not three, but a whopping nine heavy dubstep tracks that you're sure to recognize as well as a few of Kantor's original dubstep touch ups. If nothing else, make sure you check out his album that comes out a week today! Also check his video for the new track.

Knife Party & Steve Aoki – Fuck Off

Festivals are renowned for being the place where artists show off new tracks – I mean seriously, what could be better than blowing the minds of thousands of people by playing something they’ve never heard before? Just last week, both Knife Party and Steve Aoki premiered this new track Fuck Off to their fans.

MacStirling- Summer Mix

I threw this mix together a few days ago in order to kick off my summer. It combines a bunch of track's that I've been digging lately like Oliver's Dirty Talk, Adventure Club's Wait, and 3LAU's remix of Back To New. The mix also features a lot a few mashups that have dropped lately from Basic Physics and Mashup Germany and the mix also has a lot of epic classics like Hardwell's Spaceman and Porter Robinson's Vandalism. I hope you enjoy the mix as much as I do.

Thursday, 14 June 2012

Girls' Generation - Mr. Taxi (Steve Aoki Remix)

Dj Asian Jesus dropped a remix today that has been cycling his live shows for quite some time now. The remix is pretty dope and you'll love it.

Monday, 11 June 2012

Zedd feat. Ne-Yo, Taio Cruz, & Eva Simons - Summer Weekends (Basic Physics Bootleg)

Mashup protege Basic Physics is back. With his latest project he features Taio Cruz's Hangover, Eva Simmons, and my personal favorite, Zedd's new hit anthem, Spectrum.
It's a sick mashup to kick off your summer.

On a side note, tom morrow is my last exam and after that I will be maintaining at least 3 posts a day!
Thanks for the support,

Skrillex- Voltage

After a seriously long waiting period with a bunch of rips, loop, and edits, we finally have the official studio version of Skrillex’ track ‘Voltage.’ This track leaked earlier this week and is said to be the leading one off of his forthcoming Voltage EP that should be dropping soon. Grab this below and delete whatever bootleg version you’ve been listening to and of course, stay tuned for the EP as it seems Sonny is putting the final touches on it.

Carly Rae Jepsen x Calvin Harris – Feel So Maybe (Jump Smokers Bootleg)

Mashing/Remixing Calvin Harris’ “Feel So Close” with Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe”, the Jump Smokers have produced something that takes both tracks to a whole other level. Check it out, enjoy your Wednesday evening, and listen to some good tunes.

3LAU- Campus Crashing: tour mini film

This evening Justin Blau released a video chronicling his most recent spring tour of University campuses across the US. It's clear that he's having a blast and the best part is that he's doing it for all the right reasons. All the money he has made on the one track he has on Beatport has gone to charity. It's a great cause and to learn more head over to 3LAU's website for more info.

Ellie Goulding – High For This (PatrickReza Remix): dubstep cover song

As if Ellie Goulding's rendition of High For this wasn't good enough.
This dubstep version High For This is really good and makes the song sound different than the 532452 other times I've played it this weekend.

Kanye West vs. Lana Del Rey - Coming To Die (Carlos Serrano Mix)

Carlos Serrano has done it again.
Today he's combined Kanye and Lana Del Rey and the mix sounds really good,
I have little to say about this track.

Saturday, 2 June 2012

AFTU- Babymaking: sexy disco

I came across this time while trolling through some other blogs tonight and I wanted to share. I've honestly never heard of AFTU but I really dig this track. It's a sexy disco track with some funk lines in it and a really catch hook that is almost trancey.

Friday, 1 June 2012

Madeon Teaser (FINALE)

Madeon is back this time with a teaser video for an upcoming track that we can assume is called Finale. The clip itself was taken from the Scopitone festival in Nantes, France. Madeon has always had this really upbeat, enlightening sound that always makes you feel good. I can't wait till this track drops but you can guarantee I'll let you know when it does.

Mashup-Germany - Backstreet's Dada Clocks

The guys over at Mashup Germany are busy releasing their second track of the week. This one features some Backstreet Boys, Dada Life and even Coldplay. The track blends a lot of really cool elements and the work clearly pays off.

Mutrix- Contact EP

This 24 year-old producer from Cincinnati named James Ruehlmann is the third impressively talented producer to show up on my radar in the last week. James’ alter ego, Mutrix, is a persona of galactic proportions. Weaving together psychedelic synths in progressive orchestrations that sometimes resemble heavy metal riffs traveling through expansive atmospheres, Mutrix demonstrates that he is a force to be reckoned with.  Grab your copy here, and definitely keep an eye on this guy. I have a feeling he could potentially have a heavy influence on where bass music is going over the horizon.
